Lipase, Serum test measures the level of lipase enzyme in the blood, which is mainly produced by the pancreas and plays a vital role in the digestion of fats (lipids).

This test is primarily used to assess pancreatic function and is especially important in the diagnosis and monitoring of acute and chronic pancreatitis. Elevated lipase levels are more specific for pancreatic inflammation or injury compared to amylase and may also be seen in certain abdominal or gastrointestinal conditions.
