APTT (Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time) test measures the time taken for blood plasma to clot after the addition of specific reagents, using citrated plasma as the sample. It evaluates the intrinsic and common pathways of the coagulation system.
This test is commonly used to assess bleeding or clotting disorders, monitor heparin therapy, and evaluate coagulation factor deficiencies such as Hemophilia. A prolonged APTT may indicate clotting factor deficiencies, liver disease, anticoagulant therapy effect, or other coagulation abnormalities. Results are interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and other coagulation tests like PT/INR for accurate diagnosis.
