VITAMIN D 1,25-DIHYDROXY, SERUM measures the active form of vitamin D (calcitriol) in the blood, which plays a key role in calcium–phosphate balance, bone health, kidney function, and parathyroid regulation. This test is mainly used to evaluate disorders related to abnormal vitamin D metabolism, kidney disease, parathyroid disorders, and certain granulomatous diseases. It is not the routine screening test for vitamin D deficiency (for general deficiency screening, 25-OH Vitamin D is preferred) and should be interpreted along with calcium, phosphate, and parathyroid hormone levels.
