VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) test is a screening blood test used to detect antibodies produced in response to infection with Treponema pallidum, the bacteria that causes syphilis. It helps in early diagnosis and monitoring of treatment response. A reactive (positive) result suggests possible syphilis infection and should be confirmed with a specific treponemal test. This test is commonly advised in cases of suspected sexually transmitted infections, during pregnancy screening, and in patients with unexplained rashes, ulcers, or neurological symptoms.
