The Dengue NS1 Antigen, Rapid test is a qualitative immunochromatographic assay performed on human serum for the detection of Dengue Virus Non-Structural Protein 1 (NS1) antigen, an early marker of acute dengue infection. The test is based on the antigen–antibody reaction principle using a lateral flow device, where NS1 antigen present in the patient’s serum binds to specific monoclonal antibodies coated on the test strip, producing a visible colored line. NS1 antigen is usually detectable from day 1 to day 5–7 of fever, prior to the appearance of antibodies. A positive result indicates active dengue infection, while a negative result does not completely exclude dengue, particularly if the sample is collected after the early phase of illness; therefore, results should be interpreted in correlation with clinical findings and additional tests such as Dengue IgM and IgG antibodies.
