The Dengue IgM Antibodies test by ELISA is a qualitative or semi-quantitative immunoassay performed on human serum for the detection of IgM antibodies against Dengue virus. The test is based on the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) principle, where dengue-specific antigens coated on a microplate capture IgM antibodies present in the patient’s serum, followed by the addition of enzyme-labeled conjugate and substrate to produce a measurable color reaction. Dengue IgM antibodies usually become detectable approximately 3–5 days after the onset of fever and indicate recent or primary dengue infection. A positive result suggests current or recent infection, while a negative result does not completely exclude dengue, especially in the early phase of illness; therefore, results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other markers such as NS1 antigen and IgG antibodies.
