The Dengue Early Antigen NS1 test is a qualitative immunoassay performed on human serum for the detection of Dengue Virus Non-Structural Protein 1 (NS1) antigen. NS1 is an early marker of dengue infection and is typically detectable from day 1 of fever up to 5–7 days, even before antibodies are formed. The test is based on the antigen–antibody reaction principle, where specific antibodies bind to the NS1 antigen present in the patient’s serum, producing a detectable signal. A positive result indicates acute dengue infection, while a negative result does not completely rule out dengue and may require correlation with IgM/IgG antibody testing and clinical findings. Results should always be interpreted in conjunction with patient symptoms and other laboratory investigations.
