CA-125, Cancer Marker, Serum is a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein antigen that is mainly used in the evaluation and monitoring of ovarian cancer. The CA-125 test measures the concentration of this antigen in blood and is commonly performed using immunoassay techniques such as chemiluminescence. It is not recommended as a routine screening test for the general population, but is widely used to monitor treatment response, assess disease progression, and detect recurrence in patients with known ovarian malignancy. Elevated CA-125 levels may also be observed in other gynecological conditions and certain benign or inflammatory disorders; therefore, results should be interpreted in correlation with clinical findings, imaging studies, and other diagnostic investigations. Serial measurement of CA-125 is particularly valuable in the follow-up of patients undergoing therapy for ovarian cancer.
