CA-15.3, Cancer Marker, Serum is a tumor-associated glycoprotein antigen primarily used in the monitoring and management of breast cancer. The CA-15.3 test measures the level of this antigen in blood and is commonly performed using immunoassay methods such as chemiluminescence. It is not recommended as a screening test for the general population, but is mainly utilized to assess treatment response, detect disease recurrence, and monitor disease progression in patients with known breast carcinoma. Elevated CA-15.3 levels may also be seen in advanced stages of other malignancies and in certain benign conditions, therefore results should always be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings, imaging studies, and other diagnostic tests. Serial measurement of CA-15.3 is particularly useful for follow-up of patients undergoing therapy for breast cancer.
