Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), Serum test measures the level of LDH enzyme in the blood, which is present in many body tissues including the heart, liver, kidneys, muscles, lungs, and blood cells. LDH is released into the bloodstream when cells or tissues are damaged.
This test is commonly recommended to help evaluate tissue injury, hemolytic anemia, liver diseases, muscle damage, infections, and certain malignancies. Elevated LDH levels are non-specific but indicate cellular damage or disease activity somewhere in the body. Results are interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory investigations to determine the underlying cause.
