HIV Qualitative (Card Test) is a rapid screening test used to detect the presence of antibodies to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1 and HIV-2) in the blood. It provides a qualitative result (Reactive / Non-Reactive) rather than an exact value and is mainly used for initial screening purposes.
This test is commonly recommended for routine health check-ups, pre-operative screening, blood donor testing, antenatal screening, and high-risk exposure evaluation. A reactive result indicates possible HIV exposure and must be followed by confirmatory tests as per national testing guidelines, while a non-reactive result generally suggests no detectable antibodies at the time of testing. Results should always be interpreted along with clinical history, risk factors, and confirmatory investigations where necessary.
