The Rheumatoid Factor (RF), Quantitative, Serum test is a laboratory blood test used to measure the concentration of rheumatoid factor antibodies present in the bloodstream. Rheumatoid factor is an autoantibody produced by the immune system that may attack the body’s own tissues, particularly the joints. This test is primarily used in the evaluation and support of diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune or inflammatory disorders. Elevated RF levels may also be seen in chronic infections, other connective tissue diseases, and certain systemic conditions, while normal levels do not completely rule out rheumatoid arthritis. The quantitative measurement helps in assessing disease activity and monitoring response to treatment when interpreted along with clinical findings and other laboratory investigations.
